Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? We've got answers. Learn more about how Cutlaski works.
What is Cutlaski? Is it an app or a website?
Cutlaski is a web-first marketplace platform accessible through any browser on your desktop, tablet, or mobile device. You don't need to download an app, just visit our website to browse, order, or manage your cook profile. We're focusing on web experience first to ensure the best functionality across all devices, with a dedicated mobile app potentially coming later based on user feedback.
Where will Cutlaski be available first?
We're launching in selected Canadian cities first, with plans to expand nationwide. Initial launch cities will be announced to wishlist members first. We're prioritizing cities with diverse food cultures, strong cooking communities, and high demand for authentic meals. Join our wishlist to be notified when we launch in your area, you'll be among the first to know.
How is this different from regular food delivery apps?
Unlike mainstream delivery apps that focus almost entirely on restaurants and fast food, Cutlaski brings together home cooks, small caterers, and food trucks, the talented local food makers who usually operate outside traditional delivery platforms. We use a pre-order system instead of instant delivery, giving cooks the time they need to prepare meals with fresh ingredients and proper care. Our secure, escrow-style payment process protects both diners and vendors, ensuring trust on both sides. And most importantly, every order supports real people in your community, not large chains.
How do payments and refunds work?
All payments are processed securely through Stripe. When you place an order, your payment is held in escrow until the meal is fulfilled. Once the cook confirms fulfillment (or after pickup/delivery), funds are released to the cook, typically within one business day. If there's an issue with your order, you can open a dispute through our platform and our team will review it fairly and issue refunds when appropriate. Full details will be available in our refund and dispute policy at launch.
Is it safe to order from cooks?
Safety is our top priority. Every cook undergoes identity verification and reviews our food safety guidelines. Cooks must provide clear allergen information and dietary labels for all menu items. We educate cooks on proper food handling, storage, and preparation. Diners can read reviews from other customers and our rating system helps maintain quality standards. Any cook with consistent negative feedback or safety concerns will be removed from the platform.
I'm a home cook. What do I need to get started?
To become a cook on Cutlaski, you'll complete our application process, which includes identity verification and reviewing our food safety guidelines. You'll need a functional home kitchen, the ability to prepare meals safely and hygienically, and a passion for cooking. We'll guide you through setting up your profile, adding menu items with photos and pricing, and managing your availability so you can start taking pre-orders with confidence.
Do I need a commercial kitchen?
Cutlaski cooks are required to follow local and provincial guidelines applicable to home-based or small food businesses. Requirements can vary based on your location and the type of food you prepare. Many cooks start with home-based preparation, while others choose to operate from approved facilities.
If you're looking to scale your food business, expand your menu, or operate from an alternate location, Cutlaski can help connect you with approved commercial or shared kitchen options based on demand.
I run a small catering business. Can I join Cutlaski and how can it help me?
Yes! Caterers are a key part of Cutlaski. You can join by completing our simple application process, which includes identity verification and reviewing our food safety requirements. Cutlaski helps you showcase your menu, receive organized pre-orders, manage payments effortlessly, and reach customers planning group meals and events, without the hassle of managing everything through calls and DMs.
I run a food truck business. Can I join Cutlaski, and how can it help me?
Absolutely. Food trucks are welcome on Cutlaski. After completing our application and safety review, you can list your dishes, set pickup times, and share your truck's schedule. The platform helps you reach more customers, streamline pre-orders, reduce peak-hour chaos, and promote your truck's locations and specialties, all through an easy-to-use system.
What types of food can I order?
Cutlaski features a wide variety of cuisines from diverse Canadian cooks representing cultures from around the world. You'll find everything from traditional family recipes passed down through generations to creative fusion dishes. Common cuisines include Indian, Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Caribbean, Japanese, Korean, Thai, and classic Canadian comfort food, plus more as the platform grows.
How far in advance do I need to order?
Lead times vary by cook and service type. In general, expect to order at least 6-12 hours in advance for takeaway, 12-24 hours for dine-in experiences, and 48-72 hours for catering services. These lead times give cooks enough time to source fresh ingredients and prepare your meal with care. When browsing menus, you'll see available dates and time slots for each cook.
